Best Golf Courses In Asia

Golfing in Asia

The sport of golf began in Scotland and eventually became a symbol of prestige in the Far East. Some individuals conduct business on the golf course while others have a true passion for the game. This ancient sport is filled with legends and many already know about Golf in China, but there are other superb courses scattered throughout the rest of Asia too.

The Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club

This club is located in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and features an excellent golf course. The club is in the Rasa Ria Resort & Spa in Shangri-La with a water challenge for nearly every hole and a dog-leg snaking around a gorgeous lake for the 13th. The course offers generous greens, wide fairways and an exceptional experience for both low and high handicappers. Golfers will also enjoy the variety of wildlife at the nature reserve and the white sand beaches. There is even an orangutan education center.

The Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort

This exquisite resort is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The revered monk Kuba Sivichai built this course on what is referred to as a power spot. He also founded the Doi Suthep mountain temple outside of Chiang Mai. The course was designed by a famous architecture firm called Schmidt-Curley. The layout is challenging and contains 100 greenside and fairway bunkers. Many of these holes are outstanding but the 18th is phenomenal. This hole demands accuracy as it snakes around a water hazard. The first hole is gentle and a great way to begin.

Bali National Golf Club

This club can be found in Bali, Indonesia. The high-quality club reopened in 2013 after an upgrade that costed millions. The two nines are incredibly distinct with the first turning from the ocean as it winds up and down the Nusa Dua hinterland. The course has a tricky start with marvelous birdie opportunities at the 2nd and 8th. The back nine uses the coastal land and goes through man-made lakes and coconut groves. The 17th is a fair replica of the TPC Sawgrass in Florida's 17th.

The Danang Golf Club

Panorama

This course was built on the sandy loam in Danang, Vietnam and has similarities to the Carolinas’ sand-hill courses and the Scottish links. The 16th features an elevated tee and the white sands of China Beach lead to the aquamarine waters of the South China Sea for a stunning backdrop. The Cham Islands can be seen as a glorious green reaching for the cobalt sky. The 17th is bisected by two streams and the 10th heads towards the Marble Mountains with a funnel of sand dunes.

The Phokeethra Golf Club

This sensational golf course is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Nobody foresaw a golf course of this magnitude being built so close to the ancient temples. This course gave credence to the saying there are boundaries in golf and broke new ground at the Phokeethra Country Club. The layout of the course includes original Angkorian elements such as the 11th century styled bridge connecting the 9th green with the 10th tee. The majority of the course has a modern design with an American style, water hazards creating a challenge at all but one hole and expansive bunkering. The appearance of the course is a little flat but the design is canny and the conditions are excellent for a good game. The 18th is considered the finest hole with an island green approach shot and a doubly carry over water. The closer is incredibly difficult.
